Starcraft Elders FTW!

About

who are we ?

The Elders are online gamers. We came together looking for an alternative to the petty childishness of Battlenet, when the only game we played was Starcraft. Looking for a place to enjoy the game without the incessant cheating, backstabbing, foul language, and general infantile behaviour that at the time was ruining Battlenet, we formed this group.

Does anyone know anything about the "Starcraft Elders"?
I heard that they were a great bunch of guys.

Very few of you young dudes like to pal around with us 40-ish guys. Its the
same with us; we mostly prefer the company of our own age group.

About setting a fixed lower age limit of 25, that is just for practical
reasons. Sure, some people of 17 are more mature than some people of 27,
but there is no easy way to tell that when a person applies for membership.

How about one of you chaps starting a club for people from 17 through 24?
You can call it the pre-elders if you want. (But I'm sure you will think of
a better name.) You should be able to recruit 500 members.

BTW, if any old people are reading this, check out our web site at:

Some of us older Starcraft players have formed a group called "The Starcraft
Elders". The main point of this is because there are so many youngsters
posting to this newgroup, and playing on battle.net. Like, we might bitch
and moan, but we don't whine. :) And we don't cheat, or backstab, or
insult, or trash-talk. (well, not much anyway) We currently have 25
members, but we are seeking more. Our minimum age is 25, most members are
in the 30's, but some are well beyond that. We have a web site with a forum
and a mailing list. Some of us play regularly on battle.net. If you think
you want to be a "Starcraft Elder", reply to this message. --

      From Jan 3 1999:

How about some of us older guys keeping in touch? If this interests you
send me an e-mail and I will pass the addresses to the others who write.
Then we can exchange e-mail about Starcraft and complain about all the rude
kids, etc. We can also team up for battle.net games. (and/or compete
      against each other)

I play regularly on battle.net. I would like to find a team-mate or two who
      is past adolescence.

First off, this is a very cool thread as it hits close to home for me on a
      few levels.

To Karl - I suppose the fact I am still single at 28 and a heavy SC player
may strangely be linked to your situation somehow :-)

I had 3 friends over last Fri since we were all off of work and we played
Brood on my LAN. Three of us are single and the fourth is married, he
happens to be my brother-in-law. We started out about 10 a.m. Well at
about 4p.m. my sis dropped by (5 years younger than me btw) and dragged
hubby home. The rest of us ended up playing till about 3 a.m. Sat morning!!
Slightly excessive even by my twisted standards but we all had a blast.
Bunker Command is really fun when you can scream and yell at the others only
a few feet away! I don't quite know where I'm going with all this, but
      wanted to share it anyway...

I'm 25 and I play Starcraft/BW...god I feel like I'm in one of those old
frosted flake commercials. I'm just glad that I'm not the only one! I don't
have a problem playing against any age group - It's just nice to have some
things in common with the people your playing with, you know a job during
the day, having to spend time with the wife or girlfriend (who doesn't
understand why the hell you spend so much time playing this game) - well you
get the point. a 20 something and over clan sounds good to me, sign me up!

IMO, there's nothing wrong with elitism or discrimination in a private club.

      Chris,
You wrote to me about the Starcraft Elders, but you didn't include a valid
e-mail address. I sent some messages but they were returned as
      undeliverable.

:) or, "can we please pause for a couple, my daughter just woke
up and called for me". Someone else has said it before, but I was *really*
tired of BNET, and the elders private game server and private NNTP server
( once it settles down :) ) make the game fun again.

Remember everyone, we're not here to torque anyone up, just cluing those >25
that there is a "good thing" out there.
